What's in my name "Bibudhendu Patnaik"?

My parents named me Bibudhendu, a Sanskrit word rich in meaning and depth. It is derived from Bibudha, meaning enlightened or wise, and Indu, meaning the moon. Together, it signifies “the enlightened moon” — a calm, steady source of light and guidance among the wise. Over the years, I have tried to live in alignment with this meaning, becoming a quiet yet purposeful force of change and working consistently for the welfare of communities across Odisha.

My surname,Patnaik, is one of the prominent surnames of Odisha. It means “leader of a town or village” and is derived from the Sanskrit words *Pata (town) and Naik (leader). Historically, the title was associated with individuals entrusted with administrative and leadership responsibilities, such as village heads and officials. The surname carries a legacy of public service and leadership, borne by eminent figures like former Chief Ministers Biju Patnaik, Janaki Ballav Patnaik, and Naveen Patnaik. I carry this surname with responsibility and purpose, striving to honour its heritage through service, integrity, and commitment to society.

ମୋ ନାମ ବିବୁଧେନ୍ଦୁ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକରେ କ’ଣ ଅଛି?

ମୋ ପିତାମାତା ମୋର ନାମ ବିବୁଧେନ୍ଦୁ ରଖିଥିଲେ, ଏହା ଏକ ସଂସ୍କୃତ ଶବ୍ଦ, ଯାହା ଅର୍ଥ ଏବଂ ଗଭୀରତାରେ ସମୃଦ୍ଧ। ଏହା ବିବୁଧ  ଯାହାର ଅର୍ଥ ଜ୍ଞାନୀ , ଏବଂ ଇନ୍ଦୁ  ଯାହାର ଅର୍ଥ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ର ରୁ ଆସିଛି। ଏହା ଏକତ୍ରିତ ଭାବରେ "ପ୍ରକାଶିତ ଚନ୍ଦ୍ର"କୁ ବୁଝାଏ - ଜ୍ଞାନୀମାନଙ୍କ ମଧ୍ୟରେ ଆଲୋକ ଏବଂ ମାର୍ଗଦର୍ଶନର ଏକ ଶାନ୍ତ, ସ୍ଥିର ଉତ୍ସ। ବର୍ଷ ବର୍ଷ ଧରି, ମୁଁ ଏହି ଅର୍ଥ ସହିତ ସମନ୍ୱୟ ରକ୍ଷା କରିବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରିଛି, ପରିବର୍ତ୍ତନର ଏକ ଶାନ୍ତ କିନ୍ତୁ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟମୂଳକ ଶକ୍ତି ହୋଇ ସାରା ଓଡ଼ିଶାରେ ସମ୍ପ୍ରଦାୟର କଲ୍ୟାଣ ପାଇଁ ନିରନ୍ତର କାର୍ଯ୍ୟ କରୁଛି।

ମୋର ଉପନାମପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ, ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ପ୍ରମୁଖ ଉପନାମ ମଧ୍ୟରୁ ଗୋଟିଏ। ଏହାର ଅର୍ଥ "ସହର କିମ୍ବା ଗ୍ରାମର ନେତା" ଏବଂ ଏହା ସଂସ୍କୃତ ଶବ୍ଦ ପଟା (ନଗର) ଏବଂ ନାୟକ (ନେତା) ରୁ ଆସିଛି। ଐତିହାସିକ ଭାବରେ, ଏହି ଉପାଧି ପ୍ରଶାସନିକ ଏବଂ ନେତୃତ୍ୱ ଦାୟିତ୍ୱରେ ନ୍ୟସ୍ତ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିମାନଙ୍କ ସହିତ ଜଡିତ ଥିଲା, ଯେପରିକି ଗ୍ରାମ ମୁଖ୍ୟ ଏବଂ ଅଧିକାରୀ। ଉପନାମଟି ଜନସେବା ଏବଂ ନେତୃତ୍ୱର ଏକ ଐତିହ୍ୟ ବହନ କରେ, ଯାହା ପୂର୍ବତନ ମୁଖ୍ୟମନ୍ତ୍ରୀ ବିଜୁ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ, ଜାନକୀ ବଲ୍ଲଭ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକ ଏବଂ ନବୀନ ପଟ୍ଟନାୟକଙ୍କ ପରି ପ୍ରସିଦ୍ଧ ବ୍ୟକ୍ତିମାନେ ବହନ କରିଥିଲେ। ମୁଁ ଏହି ଉପନାମକୁ ଦାୟିତ୍ୱ ଏବଂ ଉଦ୍ଦେଶ୍ୟ ସହିତ ବହନ କରୁଛି, ସେବା, ସଚ୍ଚୋଟତା ଏବଂ ସମାଜ ପ୍ରତି ପ୍ରତିବଦ୍ଧତା ମାଧ୍ୟମରେ ଏହାର ଐତିହ୍ୟକୁ ସମ୍ମାନ ଦେବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରୁଛି।
